Things You Don't Need

The title of my Pinterest board is Things You Don't Need because as you can tell it's a collection of things I spotted, which you really don't need. Once in a while it's fun to splurge on a thing you don't need, forgetting the size of your New York City apartment and just buy it. The winner of the pack is by far the Luis Vuitton waffle maker. The Lego blocks ice tray is "oh so not a necessity" as well.

Now I'd use this fortune cookie box from the Home and Gifts section on Shopbop. How fun is this beach towel?! Imagine pulling it out of your bag and spreading it on the beach. Do you think it would be a great conversation starter? The towel is by Barbara Kruger.

The ceramic house number tile is something I found and purchased for my New York apartment.
I caught myself splurging on details, found this Etsy artist and placed my order. The number 22, which was used on the site photo is actually the number I need but I still have to wait five weeks. That's close to the wait for my Mac with retina display - which I'm excited to say is arriving tomorrow. Yeah!

DVF released a few notebooks with her signature prints on the covers. Marc by Marc Jacobs iPad case caught my attention. I actually had a similar keychain to the one by See by Chloe - the tiny motorcycle jacket. Sweet! These are the fashion books I'd actually get and read cover to cover -there's always something new to know about Chanel and Marc Jacobs, the icons.

My Glam Improved! July Box

My Glam subscription box got a face lift. The products included in the July box, or should I say a pink bubble envelope, were much better than My Glam subscription from the previous month. Great products to try, I'm especially excited to test the Yes to Cucumbers facial towelettes - never enough mascara removing products on the go. The Juice Beauty moisturizer with sunscreen could be the second best, especially since it includes the zinc oxide - one of the must haves four ingredients in sunscreen.

I'm not too excited about the white nail polish. Michelle Phan uses it to draw clouds on her nails, which are pretty to watch but not really my thing. I've been recently into the bright turquoise color for my nails. I'm obsessed with the one from the last Birchbox. I'm glad My Glam stepped up and made their subscription boxes better. I've seen quite a few videos of YouTubers, who were not happy with My Glam and intended to cancel the subscription. My Glam - brand that listens.

And speaking of subscription boxes, August Lucid Boxes will be shipped sometime next week. You have until the end of July to sign up and receive the August box. Check out my unboxing video of the July Lucid Box to see what to expect - there were 2 necklaces worth $68 and the subscription is just $29 a month. It's definitely worth looking into it.
You can also check out a review of the first Lucid Box here.
I was so excited to see that the reviewer said she "liked the Lucid Box more than the JewelMint subscription." Now that's a huge compliment as the JewelMint is a very popular jewelry subscription box, which most people have heard of.

You're Not Crying Alone

Today this post may be about you. Or it may apply in a week, a month, the future... Summer day, gorgeous weather you wake up and all you want to do is crawl back to bed and stay there until... what seems like forever. You call in sick or decide to just suck it up and continue with your daily life no matter how much you don't feel like it. Or you get back from work and not being able to hold your emotions anymore, you burst into tears. You feel like crying, crying loud so you cry. You have your reasons, the reasons which make you upset, which hurt only you. You know that the only person affected by your reasons is you so you feel like you're the only person crying, you feel like you're crying alone.

You decide to look for distractions and glance at facebook - you see couples kissing, friends smiling and laughing. It seems to you that everyone in the world is having an amazing time but you.

The message of this post is to let everyone know that you're not crying alone. If in the moment that you cry, most people seem happy, rest assured that they did cry and maybe at that moment you had a great time.

This post was inspired by a few events, which happened lately. I had a few people over for a party recently and a friend, who confirmed did not show up. I was kind of upset, called her the next day and she admitted that last night she couldn't stop crying because yet once again she got rejected after her job interview. She's been trying to find a job for a while now but she has always seemed to me she was this confident person, who takes rejection well treating it as a challenge more than discouragement. I would never even imagine that it was bringing her to tears.

Another person I know had a breakdown because of her weight. She disappeared for days admitting later that she was embarrassed to go out. A few days ago I stumbled upon one of the posts of Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere - the Emily who is engaged, who cooks beautiful food and whose life seems perfect to everyone following her blog. Well, she published a post A Good Cry where she mentions a movie Legends of the Fall, which she chose to watch when she was "feeling off."
"I couldn’t quite articulate what was wrong, but I just didn’t feel like myself and wasn’t sure what would make me feel better. I pride myself in usually knowing exactly what I need – whether it’s a night out with girls, a great meal with my husband, or some time alone reading in bed. But this particular weekend, nothing sounded appealing" - she writes.

Emily and both of my friends are just a few examples. I'm another one. Yes, I do cry and when I cry and have a bad day it does seem to me that the whole wide world is having a great time but I. A while back I wrote a related blog post.

I was debating if I should write a non uplifting post. "Is that what my readers would like to read in the morning, during their coffee break at work or at night?" I decided to post it because above all I'd love this blog to be real. Life is: jumps, polka dots, laughs but also at times tears and you're not alone to be experiencing it all.

Dots and Stripes - Yayoi Kusama in Hudson River Park

I saw these sculptures at one of my favorite places in New York - Hudson River promenade. People were just lounging on them and treating them like a part of the park. I love this rediscovery and appreciation that the world has had lately for Yayoi Kusama. What an amazing artist and I'm glad this time she got really appreciated the way she's always deserved.

I've been trying to find where I got this dress but I'm really not sure. It was last year. The sunglasses are Chanel, they're polarized, so comfortable to wear.

New York Times - the Hunt

I'm so excited that this Sunday my newly purchased pied-a-terre in New York will be featured in the New York Times real estate section. The article is already online. I had no idea that so much goes behind getting an article published. It took two long phone conversations, the journalist Joyce Cohen came over and then the photographer paid me another visit. Four people looked over the article after it was written. Then last night it appeared online.

I'm wearing Alice and Olivia dress, which has been by far the best purchase this summer. You know the feeling when a dress fits you well and you know you look good in it? That's the case of this green dress. Also the wallpaper is from Flavor Paper, a cool store in Brooklyn. The bedding is from Blissliving Home, I also mentioned it in this blog post.

First Lucid Box Unboxing

The first Lucid Boxes were sent on Friday and by now everyone has received theirs so I can post this unboxing video without spilling the beans for anyone. The big part of the Lucid Box is that the jewelry pieces arrive every month as a surprise. For anyone not familiar with the monthly jewelry subscription boxes here are the details. There's still a week left to sign up for the August box shipping the second week of August.

So... here's the unboxing of the first Lucid Box

Birchbox July and Lime Mojito Minteas

The July Birchbox monthly subscription box arrived. Said to appeal to all the senses, I noticed right away that my box was missing "hearing" - neon headphones listed in the description of the box, haven't made it to my Birchbox. I could probably request them but I have already too many iPhone/iPad headphones and I'm not sure I'd be a fan of "glowing ears" anyway.

Ok so the highlight were the mints aka Minteas. The mojito lime flavor is spot on. Mints with a touch of interesting. I'm opening the second tin as we speak actually. Color Club is an unknown to me nail polish brand but their blue-ming color is great. All my nails are blue now, had them done to finish the weekend well.

Now the BB cream. The beauty world has been gossiping about those for a while now. I have never used it, never been a fan of these "all in one products" but I will definitely try the one by Boscia.

Cool.

Since we are on the subject of monthly subscription boxes, I do have to mention that the July lucid boxes have just shipped. They're scheduled to arrive to everyone this Tuesday.

This is what every box looked like before I tightly closed them. Click for more info about the Lucid Box monthly jewelry subscription but let me just tell you this month's box is beyond believable.
For $29 you get 2 pieces of jewelry, which retail value is $68. Ha!
Perfect time to sign up and receive the August lucid box, which will be shipping the second week of August.

Sailing Vacations in Greece in Pictures

I have just got back from a sailing trip in Greece. This country is so gorgeous, the Greek islands are very diverse. The best part of the trip was that you never knew what the next island would look like...

We arrived at one of the ports in Peleponnese - Plaka late at night. I couldn't tell where I was.
In the morning I woke up to this view from my cabin...

The fishing boats in Greece looked like toys

I took this picture at the Acropolis in Athens.
