Best Sunscreen that Works

You have probably seen a lot of articles like "Best Sunscreens" etc. Why are they best? Sometimes the packaging, brand name, being sold in a pharmacy...

Since being on the beach is one of my favorite things to do, I recently made sure I did a thorough research on how to be properly protected. Sunscreens as it appears are all different and some of them are more effective than others. It is still said that the best protection is the roof but let's be honest here: I love the beach. Here is a few things that I found out:
It's important to ensure you're protected against UVA as well as UVB - look for the following four ingredients in the sunscreen:
titanium dioxide
zinc oxide
ecamsule - Mexoryl SX
avobenzone
The sunscreens I found that contain one of the above are
contains avobenzone

contains zinc oxide

I have been using the Neutrogena one this summer and I have to say it's not the smoothest one to put on - doesn't rub in easily and can leave you with the "mime face" if you don't rub it in well. But I have gotten used to it. Were you also exposed to the sun a lot in your childhood/adolescence following the trend of tanned = healthy? Just the thought of it makes me mad. All we can do now is keep applying the proper protection. Happy Friday!

Ay Another Pair of Sunglasses

Lost... These sunglasses have been with me everywhere, so many trips, beaches. From a casual day to fancy sunset dinners - I wore them all the time. I lost them this Friday at a party, I was just not careful enough and tossed them in the already too full bag. I realized at home they were not there.

It's not the first time I loose an expensive pair of sunglasses. And every time it happens, I promise myself I'd only buy a non expensive pair. As the time passes, I forget and buy yet another Gucci or Prada.

I have my eye on these Carrera ones

But for now I'm still on the "guilt trip stage" so I'm going to wear the non expensive pairs I have. What kind of sunnies do you buy? Cheap ones not to have to worry about them? Expensive ones but are more careful than I?

In any case... happy summer.

82 and Sunny

Another gorgeous summer day in New York. 82 and sunny. I think 82 and sunny is actually the perfect temperature/weather. It's basically what Hawaii has everyday. No checking the weather, no wondering how hot it is - it's 82 and sunny. Every day.

I went to Long Beach (New York) with my friend Cynthia today, she also took these beautiful photos. It's only 45 minutes by train from Manhattan. It's unbelievable actually that you can just take an hour train ride and hear the waves.

Packing my brand new beach umbrella. How nautically appropriate.

Sailing in New York

modcloth striped shirt, gill gloves, maui jim boyfriend's sunglasses ("boyfriend's" is not a style like boyfriend's sweater or something, these are my boyfriend's sunglasses, hahaha), harken shoes

It was such a hot and hazy afternoon yesterday in Manhattan that going for a sail seemed like an amazing idea. Great winds and a perfect company added to the whole experience.
So there's not a whole lot out there as far as women sailing clothes as sailing is a men dominated sport. I always get frustrated that my choices are so limited and men have walls and walls or stuff to choose from in the sailing shops.
It was amazing to take a personal day off, do that too, don't let the summer pass you by...

The Happiness Project

I have been reading The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. The author took a year off to focus on 12 areas of our lives and analyze what makes us happy. I'm on the 5th chapter - Be Serious About Play - realize how you relax best. Light book, and a perfect vacation/beach read.

Naked Palette Urban Decay - 12 Eye Shadows and I Love Them All

You know the old game where you look at the set of eye shadows and you realize you love just about half of them. Knowing that you'd never use the green, which reminds you of the first eye shadow color, which you used in high school or the blue, which hue is just not right, you decide not to get the set. And you opt for buying your eye shadows one by one, which at $14.50 a pop at MAC can be a bit way too much. Well that has been my case anyway. Not to mention the loss when I forgot that my MAC Arena clor was in my travel cosmetics case and I purchased yet another MAC Arena. At one point I had 3 MAC Arena eye shadows (same color).

And then... guess what. I discovered Naked Palette by Urban Decay - 12 eye shadows and every single one is amazing. I'm into all shades of natural and nude so you can just imagine how happy I was when I discovered this set! A set for nude lovers! Not to mention that the velvet case looks so cool - with huge letters NAKED on. Ha! Get your own Naked Palette

time to play!

Bermuda Escape

Ah the weekend escapes... So colorful, sunny and... short. The boyfriend/girlfriend Bermuda getaway was beyond fantastic this past weekend.

So this picture was supposed to be the walking on water type. I swam to the rock I'm on and was hoping that with the wave coming I'd look as if I was walking on water. One "detail" escaped me - the clarity of the waters in Bermuda. So here I am standing on the rock...

I wore this white beach cover-up here too. I love white light blouses and dresses. So comfortable and summer appropriate. I have an eye on this C&C California white blouse now...

There are always so many options of staying when on vacations. The place where you stay can totally add to the charm of your vacations. My favorite Bermuda hotel was The Reefs

We opted in for a much modest but oh so romantic cottage. There's something about having a key to your house in Bermuda - even if it's just for three days...
